Some Info on my project.....

Im going to write some information I found about bachata, salsa and merengue. Bachata is a popular guitar music from the Dominican Republic. Guitar music always been a part of Dominican musical landscape. Bachata began to be assiocated with another world, that of prositution, proverty and delincuency. The many reasons for this are many and complex and involve the conflicts within Dominican socitey around proverty and wealth, tradition and modernity as as genuine bad faith on the part of other elements in the music industy. Salsa refer to a fusion of informal dance styles having roots in the Caribbean (especially in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the United States)Latin America and North America. Salsa is usually a partner dance, although there are reconginzed solo steps and some forms are danced in groups of couples, with frequent exchanged of partner. Merengue comes from a cuban music called UPA, which arrive to Santo Domingo in the middle 19th century from Puerto Rico. Merengue made it ways into dominican society being accepted in certain social sectors and displacing other dances that required s great mental and phyical effort to be executed.

Project Proposal

My name is Rosalyn Caraballo. I am a senior at Brooklyn Prep. Theproject that I was going to do first was the 5 boroughs in the NYC with my partner Stephanie but it wasn't really working out so we decided to do out own project. So the project that I am doing now is Spanish music. The reason I am going to do my project on Spanish music because it something I could learn more about. For my Spanish music project I'm going to talk about bachata, merengue, and salsa, what is their history, how they make their music, which instruments do they use and how do u dance each of the music.
The habit of mind that connects to my project is connections. I use connections because it connects to my heritage and other cultures or whoever like listening to Spanish music and who wants to know about their history or whatever. Another habit of mind that I could use formy project is perspective because I'm might write my own opinion and I'm going to research the history of each of the different music I'm writing about.
The material that I need to do this project is a computer with Internet of course and a printer so I could research the different type of music that I'm going to talk about. Also I need a blank CD so I could put the music.
My strengths for my project are looking up the information I need tofind or learn or write about. Also looking up music for my blank CD is going to be easy. My weakness for my project is getting everything done on time.

Spanish Music ( My new idea)

I'm writing this new blog to tell you all that I decided to switch my project to spanish music. I changed my old project to a new one because it wasnt really working out. I feel like I'm going to learn something while doing my new project because I'm going to pick different kind of spanish music ( bachata, merengue & salsa) find their history, how they make their music, what kind of instrument do they use and other kind of information I need to know and other people. My background planning is I need to know what type of spanish music I'm going to write about because their are different types. Then I have to find out information of the different type of music I pick to write about. Also I have to find which songs I'm going to put on the blank CD. So my final project is a spanish cd with different type of music which are bachata, merengue, salsa, and also written information about each of them. The materials I need for my project are a blank cd, a computer with internet, a printer and of course time to finish my project.

Five Boroughs

Each of the boroughs of New York City has unique and interesting stories behind their names. All of boroughs were created in 1898. Each borough currently corresponds to a county of New York State. The Bronx is Bronx County. Brooklyn is Kings County. Manhattan is New York County. Queens is Queens County and Staten Island is Richmond County.
The Bronx is located Northeast of Manhattan. The Bronx is
only the section of the city that is part of the United States
mainland. The borough of the Bronx is named after Jonas Bronx, a Scandinavian. He's one of the area’s first settlers in 1639. The Bronx is the birthplace of rap and the hip-hop culture. The Bronx also continued to attract immigrants and is now home to large ethnic populations.
Brooklyn is New York City's most populous borough with
nearly 2.5 million residents. Brooklyn was found by the Dutch who
originally named the borough Breuklen or broken land. Some of the
neighborhoods have different nationalities. Sunset is composed of Latin Americans and Chinese while Bedford-Stuyvesant is predominantly African American. Also Brooklyn is known for it cultural, social and ethnic diversity, and independent art scene across its distinct neighborhoods.
Manhattan is an island borough of NYC. Manhattan has
famous landmarks, tourist, attractions, museums and universities and also has the largest business. The name Manhattan comes from an Algonquin word meaning "island of hills". Also Manhattan is the most populated borough and home to most of the city's skyscrapers as well as Central Park.
Queens is the largest in area and the second largest of the five boroughs of NYC. Queens was named after Catherine of
Craganza, wife of England's King Charles II. Also Queens is known as the most the diverse county in the U.S and many overtake Brooklyn as the city's most populous boroughs due to its growth. The Dutch founded the towns and the villages and today the borough is largely residential and middle class.
Staten Island is the least populated of the five boroughs and is considered the most suburban of the five boroughs of NYC. Fort Wadsworth was the name of the original settlement and it was a military installation for almost two hundred years. Staten Island is connected to Brooklyn by the Verrazon-Narrow Bridge and to Manhattan the free Staten Island Ferry.
Each borough offers something unique to represent New York City. The five boroughs have different qualities to offer. Manhattan
has broadways shows, beautiful residential towers and also it
satisfies every interest. Brooklyn has different businesses and charming brown stones. The Bronx is home to Yankee Stadium and the world famous Bronx Zoo. Queens has Shea Stadium and the U.S open are popular Queen's destinations for sport fans. Staten Island is combining the culture of the city with a small town feel.
